Karen Fitzgerald

Education: B.A. from the University of Michigan.  
Skating experience: As a competitive adult skater,
medaled in 2 Adult National Competitions. Passed the Adult
Silver Freestyle, Adult Gold Moves in the Field, standard
track Novice Moves in the Field and Pre-Silver Dance.
Continues to skate in club shows and exhibitions.
Coaching experience: Been a coach at GCFSC since 2002
Gives private lessons to children and adults ranging from
Basic Skills level to US Figure Skating competitive track
skaters to hockey players and recreational skaters.
Teaches Basic Skills classes in addition to creative
stroking classes, on and off-ice conditioning. Regularly
attends seminars to enhance knowledge in the sport and
has recently completed training outlining the new Moves in
the Field rule changes.
Coaching Philosophy: A coach should not only teach
skating skills in a fun and safe manner, but also teach
lessons that are applicable to all areas of the student’s life.
These lessons include physical fitness, good
sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for others, acquiring
self-esteem through accomplishment and accomplishment
through hard work and practice.

Angela Keller

Graphic Design
Skating experience: 16 years of skating, 12 years of
skating competitively. Passed Novice
 Freeskate Test and Senior Moves in the Field Test
Coaching experience: 6 years of experience teaching all
levels of skating, both recreational and competitive, to all
ages of skaters. Completed the Garden City Basic Skills
Mentorship Program, attended multiple seminars hosted by
the Garden City Basic Skills Program, as well as seminars
hosted by Skating Clubs around the Metro Detroit area.
Coaching Philosophy: The best way to reach
accomplishment requires working hard toward reaching
your goal, while having a bundle of FUN along the way!

Rosie Keller

Education: B.S. in Exercise Science from
Eastern Michigan University
Skating Experience: 18 years of skating, 12 years of
skating competitively. Passed Junior         
Freeskate test, Senior Moves in the Field and Silver level
Dances. Participated in numerous ice shows
and exhibitions.  
Coaching Experience: 9 years of coaching experience
including recreational and competitive skaters of all ages.
Private students have participated in a wide variety of local
competitions and exhibitions. Experience teaching
stroking, moves in the field, conditioning and off-ice
exercise classes. Current member of the Professional
Skaters Association and the U.S. Figure Skating
Association.  Regularly attends skating seminars and
Basic Skills workshops.
Coaching Philosophy: Skating is a sport that can
provide more than just skill.  It teaches hard work,
dedication, accomplishment, and provides a great way to
have fun and enjoy being active! Each skater’s love for the
sport will shine through in a unique way through their own
style of skating…as a coach, I want to be there to guide
them and help them grow!

Skating Experience: 10 years on the ice.  Tested
through Senior Moves, Silver Ice Dancing, Juvenile
Freeskate test.  Currently skating and testing. Participated
in numerous Garden City FSC ice shows and
Christmas exhibitions.
Coaching Experience: 5 years coaching experience in
the Basic Skills Program. 1 year coaching private lessons.
Accepting students of all ages and levels.

Ashley Raby

Skating Experience: 8 years of competitive skating. Skated
in numerous ice shows and Christmas exhibitions.  Passed
Intermediate Moves in the Field and
Juvenile Freeskate test.  Currently skating and testing.
Coaching Experience: Completed the Garden City
Basic Skills Mentorship Program.  3 years of coaching
Basic Skills classes. 1 year of coaching private lessons.  
Accepting students of all ages and levels.

Elyssa Rautiola

Education info: Current student at
Eastern Michigan University.
Skating Experience: Skated for 14 years, 11
competitively. Passed USFS Senior Moves in the Field and
Freeskate tests. Passed Pre-Silver Ice Dance tests.
Competed in local and regional competitions. Qualified and
medaled at the Michigan High School State Championships
in 2007 and 2008. Performed in numerous exhibitions,
including the Garden City May Ice Show, Garden City
Christmas Exhibition, and Tanith Belbin and Ben Agusto’s
“Home for the Holidays” Christmas show 2007.
Coaching Experience: 4 years of training under the
Garden City FSC Mentorship program. Private instruction –
3 years of Competitive and Basic Skills. Group instruction –
3 years of Basic Skills Learn to Skate. Choreography – 3
years for both the May Ice Show and Christmas Exhibition.
On-ice Conditioning – 1 year (highly recommended for
serious skaters!) Attended 2010 Moves in the Field
Seminary at Dearborn FSC. Attended USFS Basic Skills and
Coaching Seminars. Attended seminar given by World and
Olympic Coach Kathy Casey.   
Coaching Philosophy: Skating is a sport that offers
huge rewards, both on and off the ice.  As a coach, my
vision is to impart a vision for lifelong discipline, good
sportsmanship and fun that transcends
what happens during each
session on the ice.  I know how good it feels to wear the
gold medal, but skating is much more than getting the
gold; it’s about always doing your best and learning from
each experience.   

Jolyn Sawyers

Skating Experience: Over 15 years of skating.
Participated in numerous competitions, exhibitions and ice
shows.  Passed Senior Moves in the Field and
Junior Freeskate Test.
Coaching Experience: Coaching skaters of all ages
and levels in Basic Skills and Private lessons since 1999.  
Taken skaters of all ages and levels to various local
competitions. Regularly attends skating seminars and
Basic Skills workshops. Skating Director Assistant
2006-2010.
